So many of us today need to perceive we are back in school. It may not be the same building, classrooms and definitely not the same citizen are around - but "school" is always in. So many of my students are so happy to cease high school and some think they are done being in a classroom and done being with a teacher. They say they are thrilled for no more books and taking notes - oh how wrong they are in that thinking.
Today's world is so very distinct than just a few short years ago, laughably distinct than when I graduated high school in 1984. The sooner my students and everyone else realizes that we all need to be learners; all the time, the rest of our lives, the good off they and all of us will be. The world in one way is vastly engaging and scary too. Many of my seniors this past year were legitimately scared to graduate. They legitimately told me that they wish high school was not over. One learner I remember from two years ago said, "Mr. Daly. Why would I want to grow up? I have a roof over my head, food to eat, a part time job that gives me some spending cash, and I like advent to school to see my friends". So true, I could by that too when I was his age. Mind you, many of these kids were awesome students. They had their act together, or so it seemed on the covering of things. In talking with these students, letting them know as they are scared and apprehensive about the future (in great thanks to our media I feel) they do have many of the right tools to do well and work straight through their fears for a very engaging future.
Senior Cell Phones
As much as the world is engaging and scary, there are new and untold opportunities for citizen with the right information. So much more compared to 25 years ago. Finding that we are now in the facts Age, those that have the right facts and operate it, use it, take advantage of it; are the ones destined for greatness. It's a convert in our thinking that is the key. The message I gave my students was that if they can keep good citizen around them, have a good attitude, work hard, find a passion in life and keep reading good books; that is a big part of a successful future.
